Our main goal as the Animal Welfare Society of
Rhenish Girls’ High School is to improve
the lives of the abandoned and usually mistreated
animals that are cared for at Stellenbosch Animal
Welfare, on the Devon Valley Road. Throughout
every school year we try to visit the shelter
twice a week to walk, play with and just get the
tails wagging of the dogs (and cats) at the shelter.
In 2007 we collected much-needed funds for the
shelter by having two ‘civvies days’.
We also sold awareness ribbons during Pet Week
and helped to sell tickets for the Stellenbosch
Youth Orchestra’s concert where all proceeds
were donated to the Animal Welfare. The highlight
of the fourth term was the annual Stellenbosch
Winelands Marathon, where 10 of our girls got
up before sunrise to man a water stand in support
of the shelter. This was most definitely thoroughly
enjoyed by everyone involved.
Rhenish girls are always eager to join this society
- not only because they know that the animals
benefit enormously from their help, but because
they themselves cannot stop smiling when they
visit the shelter…
Just remember:
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you
more than you love yourself.
~Josh Billings
