Grade 10-12 Subject Choice for 2009

This information should be read in conjunction with Admission Requirements to Tertiary Institutions

Learners must choose ONE SUBJECT from EACH group below. Subject choices are subject to the availability of staff and the requirements of the timetable.

For information regarding prescribed textbooks and stationery, please vist the website of our supplier, "Oom Polla".

Please Note: WCED regulations require a course taken in Grade 10 to be followed through to Grade 12, so care must be taken with subject choice. The first four subjects are compulsory.

Note:

* Visual Art and Design are offered at the P.J. Olivier Art Centre and are subject to the learner’s meeting the Art Centre’s requirements. Lessons take place in the afternoon.

** Any Second Additional Language must have been taken up to Grade 9 level if a learner wishes to take it in Grade 10 [unless the learner is a mother-tongue speaker].

*** Italian (and German) are offered at Paul Roos Gymnasium. The availability of this subject depends on time-table constraints.

**** Engineering Graphic Design must have been taken up to Grade 9 level if a learner wishes to take it in Grade 10. The subject is only offered at Paul Roos Gymnasium and its availability depends on time-table constraints.

# It May be possible to take Music in another group if the Music Department can accommodate such a choice in their teaching time-table.

University entrance

The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor's Degree at university is 50% in FOUR recognised 20-credit subjects. LIFE ORIENTATION, DESIGN and COMPUTER APPLICAIONS TECHNOLOGY are NOT at present recognised as 20-credit subjects.
