SCA CAMP 2008!  Whoop Whoop!

Last weekend, 50 very excited Rhenishers embarked on a journey of a lifetime. Our snazzy double-decker bus dropped us off at a beautiful little campsite called La Bri Holiday Farm, nestled in amongst the Franschhoek mountains. Everyone had a great time at the camp (even when we woke them up at 1:00 am to take part in various activities) and each girl was touched in some way.

The SCA camp was life-changing! We had so much fun while strengthening our relationships with God. We can’t wait for next year’s SCA camp!  –Kirsty Sylvester

The SCA camp was amazing! It was a truly awakening experience that has changed my life for the better. I am so glad that I went!  –Olivia McHelm

I would just like to thank Mrs Van Zyl, Mr Faasen, Mr Kidd and Mrs Osato (our lovely chef) for all their time and effort - they definitely helped to make the SCA Camp 2008 the best yet! Thank you also to all of the enthusiastic campers for being such good sports and for making it all worthwhile.

Project 2007

In a beautiful team effort, learners and teachers from Rhenish Girls' High School showed their compassion by knitting blankets for 60 Mozambican orphans.

At the beginning of the second term, Mrs Regina van Zyl - a member of staff at the school - presented the girls from Rhenish Girls' High with the following problem: in the north of Mozambique is a couple, Alta and Francois Rauch, who work among the local communities. They expressed the wish to give each of 60 orphans in their immediate area a blanket. Although the winter days are warm, the nights are very cold.

The girls were then asked if they would knit, rather than buy blankets. The size of blocks to be knitted (48 in a blanket) was given as well as the size of the needles and the type of wool to be used.

The response was magnificent! Teachers, the headmistress, the girls, their moms and their grannies started to knit. Many girls learned to knit for the first time and became extremely creative, knitting patterns and different combinations of colours. The end result was a stunning 75 blankets!

60 blankets were handed over to MC Engelbrecht and Wimpie Uys at a special assembly. Some of the blankets were taken to Mozambique by a group of students from Stellenbosch Gemeente (Congregation) who helped the Rauch couple during  the winter holiday period of 2007. The rest of the blankets were given to needy people in the Stellenbosch area.

The girls of Rhenish and their teachers are very thankful for the opportunity they had to be of service to others.
