Rhenish took part in the first Gala of the season this week and emerged as the winners against very motivated Hershel and Springfield teams. Well done, Ms Henery and the girls! Keep it up! Rhenish has been the top girls’ swimming school in the Western Cape in 2008, so we have a reputation to live up to!
Please consider sponsoring one of the new starting blocks already installed at the pool! A plaque with your name will be attached to the block for all to see! R750 is the cost of one block – of which there are six; one has already been sold! What about our Big Swimmers who are leaving this year – leave your legacy at Rhenish! Contact Ms Sam Henery at school if you are interested.
Hildé Herman, who was awarded the Victrix Ludorum by Western Province Swimming, based on all-round FINA points achieved during the 2007/2008 season! Congratulations!

ALIVE AND WELL AND SO NEARLY THE WINNERS…
Four plucky swimmers chalked up another first for Rhenish when they participated in the Vista Nova Freedom Day swim from Robben Island to Blaauwberg. Jessica Bruns, Chanel Kat, Bianca Blohm and Kate Hershaw braved the icy seas in competition with 17 other relay teams on Sunday 27 April. The Rhenish Rays (“see us shine, feel us sting”) turned in an awesome performance, beating the likes of the UCT men’s team in the process. Camps Bay High - with a team of two boys and two girls – were the ultimate winners, but they pipped our girls by just 15 seconds!!! Way to go, ladies – we are so proud of you!!
TWO RHENISHERS END THE SWIMMING SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
Last term Jessica Bruns and Caitlin Kat qualified to take part in the Telkom SA Senior National Aquatic Championships and Olympic Trials in Durban from 1 – 6 April. They were selected as members of the WP Senior Swimming Team for these Championships and, swimming against the best the country has to offer, achieved some simply marvellous results:
- Jessica took part in 5 events - 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 4 x 50 m freestyle relay and 4 x 200 m freestyle relay. She came in the top 30 for all her events and improved her original placing in all of them.
- Caitlin reached the semi-finals (top 16 swimmers) in the 200m and 400m freestyle. In both events she finished 1st out of all the 14-year-olds, taking 15th and 12th place overall. She came in the top 30 in four other events – 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 200m individual medley. And in all of these events she was either the 2nd or 3rd 14-year-old home.
- Jessica and Caitlin were also members of the WP B team which won the bronze medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.
- Caitlin is currently ranked in the top 3 swimmers in South Africa in her age group.
Our heartiest congratulations go to these two girls, whose dedication to their sport and long hours of training have paid off handsomely!
Some members of the Rhenish swimming team have achieved great results in the pool.
