Water polo

The spirit among the waterpolo teams is incredible and the way they support each other is amazing. Waterpolo is an amazing sport! To those who are just beginning, believe me, it just gets better and better. Don’t go solo, just keep playing polo…

Water Polo Tour to Port Elizabeth, 22-25 February 2008

Our tour started with us all arriving at Cape Town International Airport at 07:30 on the morning of 22 Feb.  Our flight was only at 09:30, but to be on the safe side Ms Henery wanted us all there two hours before.

After a very enjoyable flight we arrived in PE at 11:00, got our luggage, and headed for Alex High School where we had to play 4 games on Friday and 6 games on Saturday.   In all, we won 4 matches, drew 5 and lost 1.

The detailed results are (against):

Stirling: 4-4 (Drew)

Alex 1A: 4-4 (Drew)

Alex 1B: 3-2 (Won)

Kingswood: 4-1 (Won)

Collegiate 1: 2-2 (Drew

Herschel: 6-0 (Won)

Pearson 1: 3-3 (Drew)

DSG 1: 0-3 (Lost)

Clarendon: 2-1 (Won)

Barbarians: 2-2 (Drew)

On Sunday 24 February, 8 Rhenish Water Polo girls decided on the spur of the moment to compete in the Spar Open-Water 1km swim in the sea

It was a very exciting day for all of us, as Jessica won the event – on her 18th birthday! - and all 8 Rhenish girls came in the top 20 women in the swim.  They all walked away with a pile of medals and T-shirts.  Our top placings were:

  • Jessica Bruns: 1st in the women’s section, and 3rd overall
  • Rosanne Lombard: 3rd in the women’s section
  • Bianca Blohm: 5th in the women’s section

A very big “Thank You” to Ms Henery (Sports Co-ordinator) for making this tour possible, and to Julie Lustgarten for being such an awesome coach and for preparing us so well for the tour.

Meagan Bridger (Captain)
Catherine Bigalke (Vice Captain)
