The Matric Committee consists of 10 Grade 12 learners.  The learners apply for the position in August of their Grade 11 year and are elected by the Grade 11s.


  • To assist in promoting Rhenish’s core values of Excellence, Compassion, Accountability, Integrity and Diversity.
  • To promote enthusiasm and spirit within the matric group in all areas.
  • To maintain a high standard of behaviour and conduct and to wear the Matric Committee badge with pride by being a role model.
  • To represent the matrics in their grade 12 year.
  • To liaise with school management and matric committee liaisons regarding matric privileges.


  • To liaise and work co-operatively with the Rhenish staff, other leaders within the school and the matric group.
  • To organize and liaise with cheerleaders regarding 4M stand arrangements.
  • To co-ordinate matric jersey design, manufacturing and all payments.
  • To promote school spirit amongst the Matrics.

Qualities Required

  • School loyalty, discretion and integrity.
  • Leadership, responsibility and accountability.
  • Initiative, the ability to delegate and to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to see tasks through to completion.
  • A concern for the welfare of others.
  • A demonstrated interest and involvement in school life.
  • Humility and the ability to put the school above self.
  • Good school attendance.
  • Patience and the ability to negotiate with both teachers and peers.
  • Diplomacy.

Election Process

  • Any learner who is not an LC member or a Mentor or a Cheerleader is eligible to apply to serve on the Matric Committee in their Grade 11 year.
  • A learner can be excluded from being considered for nomination at the discretion of the Principal if:
    • She has been in detention more than once during her Grade 11 year.
    • She has not contributed to the school extramurally in some capacity during her Grade 11 year.
    • She does not achieve a 55% aggregate or above throughout her Senior Phase. In addition, in Grade 11 there may be no subject failures and / or  two or more subjects below 40%.,
    • Interested learners must apply in writing. Application forms will be available from liaison teachers.
    • Voting will take place by the Grade 11s during an assigned registration period and 10 learners will serve on the committee in their Grade 12 year.

Note: In order to spread leadership opportunities, a Matric Committee member may not also be a cheerleader in her final year.
