Every team in each sporting discipline at Rhenish Girls' High has a captain. The captain is chosen by her team mates and the liaison teacher and coach to lead the team for that season. Being captain of a sports team is a leadership role at a school like Rhenish Girls' High, it is an honour and a privilege to serve Rhenish and her team mates in this way and the captains are encouraged to take their responsibilities seriously and to perform them with pride.
Responsibility of a Sport's Captain:
- Liaise with coach re team selection for a match (i.e. ensure that everyone selected to play is aware of this)
- Ensure that all team members are physically well and know their match times (day before match)
- Liaise with liaison teacher in event of match cancellation or postponement (phone tree starts with you, phone tree must be in place, accurate and well-maintained)
- Ensure that team’s water bottles are filled/fresh and at each match
- Check that each player’s uniform conforms to requirements for a match
- Take the necessary equipment to each practice and match
- SMS, whatsapp or email the results of a match ON MATCH DAY to Mrs Hershaw (071 677 0246, sharon.hershaw@rhenish.co.za ) and to Ms Henery (samantha.henery@rhenish.co.za)
- Write a brief commentary on the match for the very next school day after the match and submit to Mrs Hershaw and Ms Henery
- Arrange the gift for the coach and liaison teacher at the end of the season
- Write the team report for the school yearbook. Summer sports – must be done by the end of term 1 (season runs term 4 and term 1); winter sports – must be done by the end of August
